Today we will visit hotspots in Cape May for late-season fall migrants at the same time that the Cape May Birding Festival will be happening (so you know that the birding should be good!).

Cape May has many good birding spots, and on this trip we will visit different locations than our ‘usual’ sites. The plan is to start at 8AM at Cox Hall Creek WMA in Villas for an hour or two before heading down to Cape May Point (note that Cox Hall Creek has two entrances: we will be at the entrance on Bybrook Dr, not the one on Bayshore Rd. Put 2978 Bybrook Dr, Villas, NJ into your GPS unit or car navigation system). Cox Hall has a portajohn but not full bathroom facilities, so plan accordingly. At the Point, we will likely visit a beach site to look for terns, Parasitic Jaegers, gulls, and shorebirds. After lunch (bring a packed lunch, snack, and water), other options include visiting The Meadows for a raptor demonstration, and trying either Cape May Point State Park or the Garrett Family Preserve trails for migrants.  Raptors should be flying overhead all day, keeping us busy. We will be watching texts for rarities that are being seen by the many groups that should be out in the field today.
