May Meeting: The Lighthouse Center for Environmental Education
Our May meeting is about the Lighthouse Center for Environmental Education in Waretown. The Lighthouse Center is managed by the Natural Resources Education Foundation (NREF) of New Jersey. It consists of 194 acres adjacent to Barnegat Bay in Waretown, containing such diverse habitats as salt marsh, tidal creek, a brackish impoundment, freshwater pond and swamps, maritime forest, dune thicket, and open meadows. There is a quarter-mile trail leading to the bay front.
Emily Pirl, an NREF Board of Directors member, will present information on the research, site restoration, their future plans, and opportunities to volunteer with NREF.
The meeting will start at 7PM in the main Lodge at the Lighthouse Center, with doors open at 6:30 for mingling. Attendees are welcome and encouraged to join a bird walk around the grounds starting at 5PM, before the meeting.
This is sure to be an interesting evening! If you can’t make it for the group walk, you can still stroll the grounds by yourself, or come just for the program.
